You never know what you’ll see in Childwall Woods when the sun goes down, and Tuesday, 11th August, was no exception.
On the edge of the woods but still in a woody location away from the light, Matt, our ecologist, set up his moth trap.

Attracted by the blue light the moths soon started to arrive, beginning with a Common White Wave, looking anything but common.

The first visitor – a Common White Wave.
Here are a few of the visitors from that night

A Small Mottled Willow Moth

Same moth but wings open.

An orange Swift Moth
The moth spotting went on until after 10. Most enjoyable and very interesting
Thank you Matt and David. I look forward to the members-only moth night in September.
