City Nature Challenge

Cities around the world collaborate to share observations of nature in the 2026 City Nature Challenge, which took place on the 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th of April.
A group of interested observers followed Matt Jones, our ecologist and trustee, as he found many interesting species, ready to add them to iNaturalist later.

In Childwall Woods and Fields, 6 recorders managed to record 198 observations of 114 different species. Three of those 6 recorders were trustees of Childwall Woods and Fields: Andy, Izzie, and Bren.

But this was a City challenge. In Liverpool, 241 observers recorded 11,393 observations, which identified 1,396 different species. Well done Liverpool.  Liverpool recorded more species than 666 cities that took part from all over the world.
Only 87 Cities in the world recorded more species than Liverpool.
