A relic from the time when there was a woodland walk through the centre of the woods, this huge beech pokes its crown out over the choking rhododendrons.
The second largest beech in the woods at a circumference of 420cm, it is lost in the overgrown rhododendrons.
Hollows and water holes in the roots give a clue to its age, if anyone dares to push in close, and dead wood and broker branches confirm it as a veteran.
